The European champion James Wade won the 250,000-pound World Series of Darts finals at Multiversum Schwechat on Sunday evening. The 35-year-old Englishman won the final 11:10 against his compatriot Michael Smith. Wade, who first won the European title just a week ago in Dortmund, raised 50,000 pounds (56 900 euros) for his ninth victory.
World number one Michael van Gerwen, who won the previous three editions of what he previously played in the main Glasgow tournament, has already eliminated in the quarterfinals from 8:10 against his compatriot, Dutch Raymond van Barneveld. The local hero, Mensur Suljovic, defeated Wade on Saturday 3-0.
