At the beginning of the conversation, the pediatrician makes it clear: There should be a difference between the real flu virus, from which there are four types and chills. "A true flu is a serious infectious disease," says the pediatrician. This has nothing to do with cold, in which there is a runny nose and pain in the body. "Influenza is severe. It's at least a week with fever and bronchitis in the bed, it's really dirty, unless you're vaccinated." Michael Horn gets the flu "straight to face" every year, he says, each vaccine is vaccinated year.
Those who come to his practice and are vaccinated during a flu epidemic, which they lack a lot, may need to be checked, says Dr. Watson. Horn. "The rest got it all this year."
The pediatrician refers to the flu as one of the typical diseases in the kindergarten. "People always say that children are a fire of flu, because viruses spread through drought infections like wildfire among children." In the kindergarten, young children are exposed to foreign bacteria for the first time. It's good for the immune system. It can develop so well that children are ready for much later, the doctor knows. However, it may be dangerous for boys and girls to bring the disease home and infect vulnerable individuals, such as grandparents or other family members who have a faint heart. This can be fatal. The number of additional deaths caused by influenza, an excess mortality, is a statistical amount calculated by the Robert Koch Institute. "It is estimated that 1,000 to 5,000 people were killed each year during a flu infection," explains Dr. Horn.
There are several types of influenza virus. At present, especially the H1N1 virus is in circulation. How to best protect yourself and your children from it? "It is recommended that they be vaccinated every year," says Dr. Horn. However, this is not absolutely necessary. "You can compare flu by refreshing with a glossary," said the pediatrician.
Of course, if you catch a child, first of all, visit a pediatrician. If he detects an infectious disease, the child is not allowed to go to a kindergarten. And when is it allowed again without the risk of infecting other children? According to Dr. Horn, the child should return to kindergarten only if it is at least 24 hours without fever.
By the way, it should not help the parents of jumps. Because fever has a function. "Often, parents come to me and say they have already given antipyretic drugs to the child, and then they wonder that fever is always recurrent," says Dr. Med. Horn. The body has a very good reason to be fever. "It's the only defense our body has against the flu," he explains. That's why it was not so bad if a child with two, three or four years has 40 degrees Fiber. "Fever is not a disease, it prevents the virus from entering the body." The temperature is constantly rising because the body wants to fight the disease on its own. In conclusion, Dr. Horn on the Influenza Study Group's website Robert Koch, influenza.rki.de.
