Facebook app: Open links in an external browser
There is a specific issue with the browser in the Facebook application alternately placing requests to websites without cookies that were previously placed. This seems to be a browser glitch that needs to be fixed soon. The easiest way to avoid this problem is to continue using the Facebook app but not using an in-app browser. This can be done through the following steps:
- Open the settings menu by clicking on the hamburger menu at the top right
- Select “Application Settings” from the menu
- Turn on the “External links open” option (this will use the device’s default browser)
Windows
Enabling cookies in Internet Explorer 9
- Open the Internet browser
- Click on Tools (or the “Equipment” icon in the upper right corner)> Internet Options> Privacy> Advanced
- Check replace automatic cookie handling
- For first-party cookies and third-party cookies, click Accept
- Click OK and OK
Enabling cookies in Internet Explorer 10, 11
- Open your Internet browser
- Click the Tools button, then click Internet Options.
- Click the “Privacy” tab, then, under “Settings”, move the slider to the bottom to allow all cookies, and then click “OK”.
- Click OK

- Open the Firefox browser
- Click Tools> Options> Privacy
Enabling cookies in Google Chrome
- Open the Google Chrome browser
- Click the Tools icon or type Go to Chrome: // settings / next to the URL window, press Enter
- Click on “Advanced Settings”> Select Privacy> Content Settings
- Check “Allow local data upload (recommended)”
- Click on “Done”
Mac
Enabling cookies in Firefox
- Open the Firefox browser
- Firefox> Preferences
- Click the “Privacy” tab
- Under “History” select Firefox will: “Use custom history settings”
- Check “Accept cookies from pages” and then check “Accept third-party cookies”
- Click OK
Enabling cookies in Google Chrome
- Open the Google Chrome browser
- Chrome> Preferences
- Click “Show advanced settings” at the bottom.
- Under Privacy select “Content Settings…”
- Under “Cookies” select “Allow local data setting (recommended)”
- Click “OK”
Enabling cookies in Safari
- In Safari
- Safari> Preferences
- Click the “Privacy” tab
- Under “Block cookies”, check “Never”
Enabling cookies in mobile safari (iPhone, iPad)
- Go to the Home screen by pressing the Home button or by unlocking your phone / iPad
- Select the Settings icon.
- Select Safari from the settings menu.
- Select “accept cookies” from the safari menu.
- Select “from visitors” from the cookie acceptance menu.
- Press the Start button to return to the iPhone home screen.
- Select the Safari icon to return to Safari.
- Safari must be restarted before the cookie settings change takes effect. To restart Safari, press and hold the Home key (about five seconds) until the iPhone / iPad display is empty and the Home screen appears.
- Select the Safari icon to return to Safari.
