Energy consumption in October dropped from 3.4%

Electricity demand fell 3.4 percent year-on-year in October last year, the lowest estimate for the month of 2012, the Fundelec Foundation reported yesterday.

In the same sense, the consumption of the subdivisions Federal Capital and Buenos Aires showed a significant decline in Edesur (-3.1%) and Edenor (-4%), while the rest of the country also saw the same trend: -3.3%, according to the provisional data from the Electricity Administration, Kammesa.

Fundelec explained that the decline in demand was for residential, commercial and industrial users across the country: October was the second lowest year-end consumption and the lowest mark for that month of 2012, nominally.

Thus, after a quarter (June, July and August) with an increase of 5.8% over a period of one year, the largest two-month decrease (September-October) of the year was registered in percent (-4.4%), while In the first ten months of 2018, demand increased by 1.6% compared to the same period of 2017.

In October 2018, the total net demand on the Wholesale Electricity Market (MEM) amounted to 9,875.1 GWh; with an annual decrease of 3.4%; however, during the month it has increased by 1% compared to September 2018.

Of the total consumption in October, 40% (3,928.8 GWh) belonged to the housing demand, while the commercial sector represented 29% (2,920.4 GWh) and the industrial sector 31% (3,025.9 GWh).

Also, compared to the year, housing demand fell by -1.3%, while commercial demand fell by -4%, while industrial demand showed an even greater decline: -5.7%.

However, after ten months of the year, the demand for electricity increased by 1.6%.

Regarding the consumption by area in the country, in October 18 provinces and companies that fell: Catamarca (-46%), San Luis (-12%), San Juan (-11%), Chubut (-7%) ), Yugoi (-7%), La Rioja (-7%), Tucuman (-6%), Cordoba (-5%), Santiago del Estero (-5%), Eden (-4%), Eds 3% ), Entre Rios (-3%), Santa Fe (-2%), La Pampa (-1%), Mendoza (-1%), among others.

In turn, there were 7 promotions in the electrical requirements of MEM in Chaco (9%), Santa Cruz (9%), Corrientes (3%), Formosa (3%), Missionus (3%), Edéa (1%)) Edelap (1%), among others.

In the meantime, Rio Negro and Salta have kept their consumption levels in line with the year, Fundelec explains.

In addition, he noted that the average temperature in October was 17.8 º C, while in the same month of the previous year it was 18.2 º C, and the historical temperature was 17.3 º C.

In this context, the local generation showed a decrease compared to October 2017, which is 10,371 GWh for this month, against 10,587 GWh for the same period of the previous year. As in recent months, the share of imports was small when it comes to meeting demand: 25 GWh were imported by October 2018 compared to 13 GWh imported in October 2017.
