About 6,500 people live with AIDS in Rosario

Within the World AIDS Day, which is being celebrated today, Health Secretary Leonardo Caruana and Promusida Coordinator Damian Lavarelo announced the epidemiological state of HIV / AIDS in Rosario and the province. The meeting was attended by Soledad Rodriguez, head of the Iapos Provincial Autarchic Institute and Karolina Kudos, the Provincial Director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Health.

According to data presented, it is estimated that around 10,800 people live with HIV / AIDS, of which 6,500 are Rosario, which represents 60 per cent of the province and 4.8 per cent of the country. Approximately 3,000 people receive antiretroviral treatments provided by the nation in the public health system.

As for the vertical transmission (mother-son / daughter) in the last 6 years, it was 1.9 percent, the lowest rate in the country.

For prevention, the Ministry of Public Health tests approximately half of the two pregnant women serving in the healthcare network, leading this strategy and ratifying the relevance of involving men and women as a couple in pregnant women.

In recent years, mortality has declined, with a mortality rate lower than the national rate in Rosario.
