In a scenario for the influence of fake asteroids, an asteroid of size 21.1 is discovered that approaches the orbit of the Earth. Experts on top asteroids will have to cope with this simulated danger of the Planetary Defense Conference 2019. ( Pixabay )
Experts on top asteroids will meet again for this year's Planetary Defense Conference. The false scenario to be discussed this year is an asteroid heading for a clash with Earth in 2027.
Planetary Defense Conference
From April 29 to May 3, world asteroid experts will meet in Washington for the sixth conference in the planetary defense series of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA). At the conference, international agencies and top experts will discuss what is currently known about potentially dangerous comets and asteroids, and what can be done if someone threatens to clash with the Earth.
According to the IAA, the conference shows increased recognition of such objects as a potential threat to the planet. For example, the Apophis asteroid, named after the Egyptian spirit of evil, darkness and destruction, is expected to fly near Earth on April 13, 2029. It will not hit the Earth, but with its 340-meter diameter, the asteroid of that size could cause significant damage to the planet if it hits.
"But, suppose another asteroid is discovered and found to be in a collision. What would we do? We might be able to deflect the object, but our leaders could provide funding and make other decisions at critical points." How will the public respond if the use of nuclear explosives is the only option for deviation? ", reads in a press release.
These questions are just some of the issues that will be discussed during the conference.
False asteroid effect
The asteroid impact scenario discussed at the conference was developed by the NASA Airborne Laboratory Laboratory and posted on their site in such a way that the International Asteroid Warning Network will do so at a similar event.
It is important to understand that the script to be discussed at the conference is invented, but that it will be discussed in a real way. The scenario is as follows:
Asteroid size 21.1 was detected on March 26, 2019 and confirmed the next day. The calculations classify it as a potentially dangerous asteroid, and estimates indicate that it could hit the planet on April 29, 2027. At the time of discovery, the probability of hitting the Earth is at 1 in 50,000.
Three weeks after its discovery, the probability of hitting the Earth increased to 0.4 percent or 1 chance in 250. By 29 April 2019, the date of the conference, its chance of collision with the Earth increased to 1 percent.
New asteroid information
Again, the script is invented and does not represent a real threat.
Except for the exercise, experts will discuss the latest information on comets and asteroids, missions for asteroid missions, asteroid movement techniques, possible consequences for consequences, and mitigation of disasters.
